Course Outline
The transition to the cloud is no longer a question of “if” but “how.” However, a successful cloud journey requires more than just migrating servers; it demands a strategic, well-architected foundation that is secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-optimized. This course is designed for IT professionals who are ready to move from implementation to design, from tactics to strategy.
Cloud Architect Blueprint: Design for Success provides the foundational knowledge and practical skills to design cloud solutions that align with business objectives. Using industry best practices and frameworks like the AWS Well-Architected Framework or Microsoft Azure Well-Architected Framework, this course will guide you through the process of creating robust, future-proof cloud architectures. You will learn to make informed decisions across compute, storage, networking, and security to build environments that are not just operational, but exceptional.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
-
Articulate the Core Principles of Cloud Architecture: Apply the pillars of a well-architected framework (Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimization) to design decisions.
-
Design for Security and Compliance: Implement a secure cloud foundation using identity and access management, network security, and data protection mechanisms.
-
Architect Scalable and Resilient Solutions: Design highly available and fault-tolerant systems that can scale with demand.
-
Optimize Cloud Costs: Select the right resources and pricing models to design cost-effective solutions without sacrificing performance.
-
Create a Cloud Migration and Modernization Strategy: Develop a high-level plan for migrating existing workloads or building new cloud-native applications.
-
Document and Communicate Architectural Designs: Create and present an architecture blueprint to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
This course is designed for professionals involved in the design, planning, and management of cloud infrastructure.

Day 1: The Foundation – Principles of Well-Architected Design
-
Morning:
-
Module 1: The Role of the Cloud Architect: From technician to strategist. Aligning business goals with technical capabilities.
-
Module 2: The Well-Architected Framework: Deep dive into the five (or six) pillars: Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, and Cost Optimization.
-
-
Afternoon:
-
Module 3: Cloud Economics and Account Strategy: Understanding TCO, pricing models (On-Demand, Reserved Instances, Savings Plans), and setting up multi-account governance.
-
Workshop: The Design Challenge: Participants are given a simple business problem and must brainstorm which pillars of the framework are most critical.
-
Day 1 Recap: Thinking like an architect.
-
Day 2: Designing the Secure and Resilient Core
-
Morning:
-
Module 4: Secure Cloud Foundation: Designing Identity and Access Management (IAM), networking (VPC, VNet), and security boundaries.
-
Module 5: Data Security and Compliance: Encryption strategies (at rest and in transit), key management, and designing for compliance (GDPR, HIPAA).
-
-
Afternoon:
-
Module 6: Reliability and High Availability: Designing for failure. Implementing multi-AZ/availability zone architectures, load balancing, and auto-scaling.
-
Hands-On Lab: Building a Secure and Highly Available Web Tier: Participants use a cloud console to build a VPC/VNet, deploy web servers across AZs, and configure a load balancer.
-
Day 2 Recap: Building a fortress that can withstand failure.
-
Day 3: Advanced Patterns for Performance and Efficiency
-
Morning:
-
Module 7: Compute and Storage Solutions: Choosing the right service (e.g., VMs, containers, serverless) and storage type (object, block, file) for the workload.
-
Module 8: Advanced Networking: Hybrid cloud connectivity (VPN, Direct Connect, ExpressRoute), and network security patterns.
-
-
Afternoon:
-
Module 9: Performance Efficiency: Selecting compute and storage for performance. Implementing caching (CDN, in-memory caching) and content delivery.
-
Workshop: The Right Tool for the Job: Teams evaluate different application requirements and select the most efficient cloud services.
-
Day 3 Recap: Optimizing for speed and efficiency.
-
Day 4: Cost Optimization and Migration Strategy
-
Morning:
-
Module 10: Mastering Cost Optimization: Right-sizing resources, leveraging spot instances, monitoring and allocating costs, and implementing budgeting alerts.
-
Module 11: Migration Planning and Modernization: The 6 R’s of migration (Rehost, Refactor, etc.). Assessing on-premises workloads and creating a migration roadmap.
-
-
Afternoon:
-
Module 12: Automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC): The role of IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM) in consistent and repeatable architecture deployment.
-
Hands-On Lab: Cost Analysis and IaC: Participants analyze a sample bill for optimization opportunities and write a simple IaC template.
-
Day 4 Recap: Managing spend and automating deployment.
-
Day 5: Integration and the Capstone Project

-
-
Afternoon:
-
Capstone Project: The Full Architecture Design:
-
Participants are given a comprehensive business case (e.g., “Design a global e-commerce platform”).
-
They must create a full architecture blueprint, covering all pillars of the well-architected framework.
-
They present their design to the “board” (instructors and peers) for review and feedback.
-
-
Course Conclusion: Final Q&A, career pathways, and awarding of certificates.
